Korean dessert cafe guide to Seoul: a 1979 master bakery, cream coffee, Euljiro donuts and matcha tea rooms, with prices and hours.

A good Korean dessert cafe can be the best part of an afternoon in Seoul, and the city has far more than pretty latte art. This guide covers five places I keep thinking about: a bakery run by a Korean master baker since 1979, a cream coffee specialist on Garosu-gil, a tiny donut stand inside an old Euljiro electronics arcade, a calm matcha tea house in Sinsa, and a late-night cafe in Nonhyeon-dong where I have spent more hours than I can count.

The picks below are adapted from visits by Revitguide reviewer 호미식 (Homisik), who rated each 4 out of 5. Each section links to the original Korean review.

However, if you are mainly after coffee, see our separate guide to Seoul coffee shops. This one is about the sweet side: bread, cream, donuts and matcha.

What to Expect at a Korean Dessert Cafe

Seoul’s dessert scene mixes three kinds of places. As a result, a Korean dessert cafe can look very different depending on where you go, so it helps to know which kind you are walking into.

  • Old-school bakeries (제과점, jegwajeom): family bakeries with decades of history and a long counter of breads, cakes and baked sweets. Richemont, open since 1979, is a classic example.
  • Bakery cafes: large, multi-floor cafes that bake pastries in-house and serve signature drinks. Cream-topped coffee is a Seoul favorite at this kind of place.
  • Tea houses and matcha bars: a newer wave of quiet tea rooms focused on matcha, roasted hojicha and leaf tea, often with a small dessert pairing.

Prices are fairly consistent. A signature drink usually costs about ₩5,800 to ₩12,000, a pastry ₩4,000 to ₩7,000, and a street-style donut around ₩2,000. In general, most places ask you to order at the counter first and then find a seat. Also, many larger cafes expect one order per person.

1. Richemont Bakery (리치몬드과자점) Seongsan: A Korean Bakery Since 1979

The item I remember most was the chocolate baguette. It was crisp outside with moist chocolate inside, literally “crispy outside, chocolate inside.” Chocolate tastes good in almost anything, but this was my first time having it paired with a baguette, which made it more memorable.

Maybe because the bakery is famous for being run by a master baker, there were many older customers in the shop. It felt like a bakery loved steadily by everyone, men and women of all ages, rather than by one particular age group.

The matcha drink I ordered with it was better than I expected. It leaned sweet and smooth rather than bitter, so it went easily with the bread. The interior has an antique feel, and there are many different kinds of seats, so it was fairly comfortable to stay a while.

Good to know

  • Richemont was founded in 1979 by baker Kwon Sang-beom, who was named a Korean Master Hand (대한민국 명장) in confectionery in 2002, as the plaque by the door shows.
  • The bakery is also known for its chestnut bread, choux cream and chestnut pie. Besides this Seongsan main store, it has branches near Ewha Womans University and in Yeonhui-dong.
  • Address: 86 World Cup buk-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul (서울 마포구 월드컵북로 86)
  • Getting there: about 1 km (a 17-minute walk) from Hongik University Station Exit 1, so a short taxi ride is easier.
  • Hours: daily 08:00 to 22:00 (last order 21:30), closed Tuesdays.
  • Parking: a small lot with 90 minutes free.

2. Cafe Gongmyoung (공명) Sinsa Garosu-gil: Cream Coffee

The Gongmyoung latte, a heavy cream coffee, is the signature here. I went in planning to drink matcha, but the look of the latte overwhelmed me and I changed course.

The cream is quite heavy and firm. Even on top of hot coffee it does not collapse easily, so it keeps its presence to the very end. It is fairly sweet, but it leaves a pleasant feeling rather than a heavy one. The cinnamon powder sprinkled on top makes the latte feel more special.

Besides the latte, the bread was satisfying overall too. It was clearly different from what you usually get at franchises or ordinary cafes, a few levels above. Next time I want to try the matcha.

Good to know

  • Gongmyoung started in Hongdae, where it became known for its cream drinks. The Garosu-gil store, its first in Gangnam, opened in late 2024 and uses a whole building from the basement to the third floor.
  • Address: 32-4 Dosan-daero 15-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul (서울 강남구 도산대로15길 32-4)
  • Getting there: about a 9 to 10 minute walk from Sinsa Station Exit 8.
  • Hours: daily 11:00 to 23:00 (last order 22:30).
  • Price: the Gongmyoung latte was listed at ₩6,500 in 2025. We paid ₩26,500 for drinks and pastries.

3. Ppau (빠우) Euljiro: Fresh Donuts in an Old Arcade

There is definitely something in this dough. It looks like a familiar donut, but you feel it the moment you bite in. The dough is unusually soft, and a nutty, savory flavor lingers for a long time.

It was spring, but the day happened to be a little chilly, and Ppau felt like a blessing I found in Euljiro. The price is easy on the wallet too, so it is the perfect place to drop by as you pass and grab a light snack.

Good to know

  • Ppau fries its donuts to order from a rested, fermented glutinous rice dough, then rolls them in sugar and serves them in a paper cup.
  • In fact, it is a small takeout counter on the third floor of Daelim Sangga, an old electronics arcade, so look for the outdoor walkway.
  • Address: Room 361, 3F, Daelim Sangga, 157 Eulji-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul (서울 중구 을지로 157 대림상가 3층 라열 361호)
  • Getting there: about 3 minutes from Euljiro 3-ga Station Exit 6.
  • Hours: visitors in late 2026 reported Monday to Friday 11:00 to 19:00, Saturday 11:00 to 18:00 and closed Sundays. Some listings show different hours, so check before you go.
  • Price: the basic Ppau donut was ₩2,000 and cheese donuts ₩2,500 in October 2026. I paid ₩2,500.

4. Pod Ritual (팟리추얼) Sinsa: A Matcha Ritual

I ordered a matcha latte. Even before it was poured into the milk, the matcha smelled so vivid that a gentle grassy scent rose from the cup. Rather than leaning on sweetness for popular taste, it felt focused on matcha’s own flavor.

The matcha you drink here, and a space where you feel you could start meditating right away: the tables and chairs, the small objects, the staff uniforms and their kindness all build one mood. It is not just a pretty room. I could feel the precision of someone who designed this sensation from the start. The name “ritual” suited the place very well.

Good to know

  • Pod Ritual is a tea brand from the Seoul fashion label Ader Error. The Sinsa tea house opened in March 2026, followed by a Seongsu branch in May.
  • The card served with my latte describes the matcha as made from young green tea leaves grown in Hadong.
  • Address: 1F, 31 Dosan-daero 11-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul (서울 강남구 도산대로11길 31 1층)
  • Getting there: about 440 m from Sinsa Station Exit 8.
  • Hours: daily 11:00 to 21:00 (last order 20:30).
  • Price: matcha ₩11,000 and matcha latte ₩12,000 as of June 2026. I paid ₩20,000 in total.
  • Booking: walk in freely. Naver booking is available but not required.

5. Jugiyul (주기율) Nonhyeon: My Late-Night Hideout

This cafe was near my home, and I have been there dozens of times. Friends I brought along usually liked it a lot too. Sharing it feels a bit like revealing my secret hideout.

This cafe taught me what kind of space I like: wood-tone interiors under yellow lights, a cold, hard concrete ceiling, and an empty, gallery-like sense of room.

What I especially loved were the hours. It used to open at 10 a.m. and run until 3 a.m. on weekdays and 1 a.m. on weekends. It is an independent cafe in the middle of Gangnam, and you could stay until very late at night. Sadly, it now closes at midnight.

To be fair, the desks and chairs are not that comfortable, but the space makes up for it. It is a great place for writing or sorting out your thoughts. The signature matcha milk leans sweet rather than bitter, but it is delicious enough to drink every day.

Good to know

  • Address: 1F, 5 Seolleung-ro 111-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul (서울 강남구 선릉로111길 5 1층)
  • Getting there: about 2 minutes from Seonjeongneung Station Exit 1 (Line 9 and Suin-Bundang Line).
  • Hours: weekdays 10:00 to 24:00, weekends 12:00 to 24:00, according to 2026 visitor posts.
  • Price: matcha milk ₩5,800. There is no parking, so take the subway.

Mamang Gelato (마망젤라또), Seongsu

There is always a crowd here, and once the gelato was in my hand I understood: it is made to be photographed. The taste of the signature pistachio was fairly ordinary, but holding it up for a photo gave me that small “I finally tried it” feeling. Next time I want the matcha.

Tips for Visiting a Korean Dessert Cafe in Seoul

  • Go early on weekends, because a popular Korean dessert cafe in Sinsa can fill up by mid-afternoon.
  • Pair places by area. Pod Ritual and Cafe Gongmyoung are both a short walk from Sinsa Station Exit 8, so you can do matcha and cream coffee in one afternoon.
  • Euljiro is a good add-on to a market day. Ppau’s arcade is a short walk from the old-school food stalls covered in our Gwangjang Market food guide.
  • Check the closing day. Richemont closes on Tuesdays and Ppau on Sundays, according to recent posts.
  • Matcha in Seoul is often sweet. Therefore, if you want it less sweet, Pod Ritual’s matcha latte felt the most tea-focused of these five.

Korean Dessert Cafe FAQ

What is a Korean dessert cafe?

It is a cafe where the desserts and signature drinks matter as much as the coffee. In Seoul that can mean an old family bakery, a large bakery cafe with cream-topped coffee, a takeout donut stand or a quiet matcha tea house.

How much does a Korean dessert cafe visit cost?

Expect about ₩6,000 to ₩12,000 for a signature drink and ₩4,000 to ₩7,000 for a pastry. On these visits I spent from ₩2,500 at Ppau to ₩34,000 for bread and drinks for the table at Richemont.

Which Korean dessert cafe has the best matcha?

For a tea-focused matcha latte, try Pod Ritual in Sinsa. On the other hand, for a sweeter, milky matcha in a relaxed cafe, Jugiyul’s matcha milk and the matcha drink at Richemont are both easy choices.

Which of these places is open late?

Jugiyul and Cafe Gongmyoung are open until around midnight and 23:00. Pod Ritual takes last orders at 20:30, and Ppau closes early in the evening.

Do I need a reservation at a Korean dessert cafe?

No. Every Korean dessert cafe on this list works on a walk-in basis. Pod Ritual offers optional Naver booking if you want a guaranteed seat.

We checked prices and hours in November 2026, and they can change. Check Naver Map before you go.
