7th Door Seoul cold course with radish, cucumber, caviar and green herb oil

7th Door Seoul (세븐스도어) is Chef Kim Dae-chun’s Korean contemporary restaurant in Cheongdam, built around one big idea: fermentation and aging. It holds One MICHELIN Star in the MICHELIN Guide Seoul & Busan 2026 and ranked No. 49 on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2026. This review covers my meal there in June 2026, plus the current prices and how to book a seat.

What Is 7th Door? The Seven Tastes

The name explains the concept. According to the MICHELIN Guide, 7th Door stands for a doorway to “the seven tastes of food.” The first five are the basic tastes. The sixth is the taste of fermentation and aging, which the restaurant treats as the core of Korean cooking. The seventh is the chef’s own culinary sense, which ties the other six together.

The welcome letter at the table spells this out too. It says the kitchen serves key ingredients that have been aged and fermented for at least three months and up to five years. In a January 2026 MICHELIN interview, the chef described jars labeled “2019 doenjang” and “2023 ganjang” as working ingredients, not decoration. In other words, time is treated as an ingredient here.

Chef Kim Dae-chun

Chef Kim Dae-chun left a career in music for the kitchen and has been cooking for more than 20 years, according to Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants. His first Seoul restaurant, Toc Toc, won the One To Watch Award in 2017 and ranked No. 41 on Asia’s 50 Best in 2019. Today, 7th Door shares a Cheongdam building with his other restaurants, Bium and Toc Toc, which are both in the MICHELIN Guide as Selected restaurants.

7th Door itself is an intimate room. Asia’s 50 Best describes a corridor that leads to the seventh door and a dining room with only 14 seats, so a meal here feels personal.

My Meal at 7th Door Seoul

7th Door struck me as a restaurant with a real talent for expressing Korean food in its own way.

A strongly seasoned start

The first dish was a juk, a Korean rice porridge. Personally, I found its seasoning a little strong. However, the courses that followed were well balanced overall, so I could enjoy the meal to the end without it ever feeling heavy.

Familiar Korean flavors, reinterpreted

What impressed me most was that the kitchen did not stop at reproducing familiar Korean flavors. Instead, it reinterpreted the ingredients and cooking methods while keeping the essence of Korean food intact.

Korean fine dining can sometimes end up as “flavors you already know.” At 7th Door, though, every dish had its own character, so the meal felt fresh the whole way through.

A smooth flow from start to finish

The flow of the course was smooth, too. For the first time in a while, I enjoyed a meal from the first dish to the last. I recorded ₩180,000 for this meal on Revitguide.

Tips for Your Visit

  • Book lunch if you want the lowest price. The weekday lunch course is ₩140,000 cheaper than dinner.
  • Take the subway to Cheongdam Station on Line 7. From there, the restaurant is about 350 m away.
  • Read the welcome letter at your seat. It explains the seven tastes, which makes the courses easier to follow.
  • The restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays, so plan a Tuesday to Saturday visit.

Verdict: Is 7th Door Seoul Worth It?

For me, yes. The opening porridge was a bit too salty for my taste, but everything after it was balanced, and each dish felt like 7th Door’s own take on Korean food rather than a copy of familiar flavors. My rating: 4 out of 5.
